Sandbox Studios Through 2025
Released in late 2025, Sandbox Studios (Through 2025) is both a celebration and a statement. Every track was recorded and produced inside Mike and Jon’s fully realized creative home base, Sandbox Studios—the studio they envisioned years prior and officially launched with Sandbox Studios Live after COVID.
This 11-track collection functions as a recap of the work the duo has so far performed in the studio, featuring both classics from their past albums and some new songs to add to their collection. Two of the songs are remastered versions of previously released material, showcasing how the pair’s sound continues to develop and mature over time. Both remastered versions feature Jeff Moszer with 8+ drum tracks rather than the original 4 live drum tracks from Rocky Romano in the Sandbox Studios Live album. The album also brings fresh energy—including five brand-new originals written in the Sandbox—proving that growth into fresh areas, ideas, and subjects hasn’t slowed either.
Across the album’s runtime, the album balances, classic rock intensity, worshipful faith-based declarations, romantic devotion, rock-and-roll rebellion, and honest human struggle. It is, in many ways, a summary of who Mike and Jon are—musicians, believers in Jesus Christ, storytellers, and lifelong lovers of rock.
Listen to a preview of the album’s tracks below, then feel free to read through the story of Mike and Jon Music, beginning with their first steps in their musical journey!
1 & 9. “Down That Road” (2022 Version + 2024 Remaster)
“Down That Road” appears twice on this album—the original Sandbox Studios Live version and a remastered 2024 rendition. The lyrics remain unchanged, but the spirit feels deepened. This was Mike and Jon’s first openly and officially faith-based song. It centers on following Jesus down the perfect road He has laid out for His children. The message is clear: Christ’s way is righteous, intentional, and worthy of wholehearted devotion.
The instrumentation carries a worshipful classic rock vibe—uplifting guitars, steady rhythm, and an unmistakable sense of forward motion. The remastered version feels even more impassioned, sung from a heart that has continued to grow in love and conviction for Jesus. Rather than replacing the earlier recording, the 2024 version enhances it—showing musical and spiritual development side by side.
2 & 10. “In Your Eyes” (2022 Version + 2024 Remaster)
Like “Down That Road,” “In Your Eyes” also appears twice—first in its 2022 form, and again as a refined 2024 remaster. This track celebrates wholesome, spousal love. It captures the kind of devotion that burns as brightly decades into a marriage as it did in the beginning. The lyrics speak of passion, joy, and the beautiful reciprocity between husband and wife.
The remastered version features clearer, more dynamic vocals and slightly refined instrumentation. The growth is noticeable—not in a drastic reinvention, but in polish, confidence, and musical maturity. The song is a powerful reminder that love can deepen with time, and so too can musical artistry.
3. “Dose of Rock and Roll”
Originally featured on Sandbox Studios Live, this heavier rock track carries intensity without frantic pacing. With Bobbi Meikel on vocals, the song embodies rebellion—not against morality, but against outside judgment. The singer refuses to care what others think. She’s chasing rock and roll because it “soothes the soul.” The keyboard line adds texture, the guitar riffs hit hard, and the entire track radiates the lifelong affection Mike and Jon have for classic rock music. It’s bold. It’s catchy. And it unapologetically embraces the genre that shaped them.
4. “Mother Never Told Me So”
Tracing its roots back to Leonard’s Opera (2000), this song has evolved through multiple versions over the decades. Here, Bobbi once again delivers fierce, commanding vocals. The lyrics explore painful realization: discovering that a lover who once seemed caring is actually indifferent and self-focused. The refrain—“Mother never told me so about the ones like you”—captures disbelief and disillusionment. The frustration manifests in powerful guitar riffs and assertive vocal delivery. Awakened to their so-called lover’s toxicity, the singer has resolved to end the relationship, recognizing it as harmful. The emotion feels timeless, and this version carries that weight with strength.
5. “Safe at Last”
– Theme Verse: Psalm 116:15
Originally from the Pick Jesus album, this faith-based track carries a laid-back, almost bluesy tone. The message is deeply hopeful: a believer who has “done their deeds and done their time” is now free—safe in the presence of Christ as they’ve now passed from this Earth and entered the arms of Jesus. The song speaks of Heaven, forgiveness, and eternal freedom.
At the same time, the lyrics can also be interpreted as a reflection of the spiritual rebirth of a new believer—dying to this sinful world and stepping into life with Jesus. Though it addresses weighty themes like death and mortality, the feel is peaceful rather than mournful. It’s celebratory in its assurance.
6. “Just Be”
Another track from Pick Jesus, “Just Be” encourages surrender. It opens with a fun, flowing guitar line before settling into a soothing message: instead of striving endlessly to perfect your spiritual walk and make yourself righteous before the LORD, rest in God’s embrace. Let Him work within you. The song invites believers to stop overcomplicating faith and simply trust in the One whom they’ve placed their assurance in. The calm instrumentation mirrors that invitation—relaxed, steady, reassuring. It’s a gentle reminder that receiving the grace of God does not require frantic effort.
7. “I Can Relate”
“I Can Relate” brings a lighter, almost beachy rock vibe with catchy guitar and drum work. While not explicitly faith-based, it lends itself well to interpretation through a spiritual lens. It captures frustration over personal shortcomings—perhaps even ongoing struggles with sin—while recognizing that such struggles are universal. The message carries compassion. The human condition is difficult, but it is understood—especially by God, who is compassionate and does not cast aside His children for wrestling with weakness. It’s honest, upbeat, and relatable in every sense for believers in Christ Jesus.
8. “Rockaholic”
One of the true originals on this album, “Rockaholic” is a full-throttle celebration of loving rock music. Heavy, driving vocals and classic rock instrumentation define the sound. The “rockaholic” can’t live without the music—loves it hot, just doesn’t want to get burned. They loved rock before it was cool and will love it long after trends fade. The guitar riffs shine here, anchoring the track firmly in the genre’s golden traditions.
It’s fun. It’s loud. It’s proudly committed to the culture of rock and roll.
11. “The Magic”
Closing the album is “The Magic,” another great track originally from Pick Jesus. It opens with a recitation from the opening verses of the Gospel of John, declaring who Jesus is and His divine power. From there, the song unfolds into a bold evangelistic message. The “magic” the singers are searching for is not an illusion—it’s the power and glory of Christ. His blood, which He shed on the cross, takes away pain. “He is the cure / He is the door.”
The track contrasts the brokenness of the world with the perfection of Jesus, inviting listeners to step into salvation. Heavy, crashing drums and driving guitar elevate the message into something urgent and powerful. It’s not subtle. It’s intentional. As a closing track, it sends the album out on conviction and purpose.
Conclusion
Sandbox Studios (Through 2025) is more than a remaster project. It’s a reflection of refinement.
